5 Steps to Live Freely

I would love for you to join me living a free, adventurous life.

Samantha Sutherland

Free, Alive, Happy. In Namibia

As I’ve been exploring myself, my dreams and my fears, five words keep coming up:

These words are what I want to live by. When I do, and I’m in my flow, then I’m happy. Life is as it should be.

When I’m missing some of them I feel stuck, melancholic… alone. And I don’t like feeling lonely.

So I’m focussing on my driving forces, and using the joy and light to shape my life. I want to build a community of adventurous women around me, who support each other, live an adventure, love their freedom and do what they can to protect it and grow it.

For me, the light has to guide everything. It helps me see the way and is the starting point for anything that comes from my soul.

Joy creates the excitement and lightheartedness I love to live by. I know I’m on the right path when I can laugh at myself with abandon.

Then I need freedom. And I have to catch the traps I fall into and look for the openness in every turn.

Freedom comes at a cost though. You have to leave behind the security of your steady life, however that comes to you. So sometimes we get stuck living small because it’s easier, and we don’t have to face the truth of what we’re giving up by living small.

Where are you sacrificing freedom?

  • A job you hate.
  • A life that makes you feel trapped.
  • Friends who don’t make you feel amazing.
  • Internal self chatter so mean that you wouldn’t dream of saying the same to anyone else.
  • Fear.
  • Unhappiness.
  • Procrastination.
  • Spending time with comparisonitis instead of lifting your own life to where you want it to be.

Connection is here. With you. I am building it up around me and growing my communicy of friends old and new. Connection is so so important to me. It’s where I share love and try to shine my light.

And adventure. Living playfully right where you are, and finding the fun in your every day.

Joy, light, freedom, connection, adventure.

Come join me.

Xx Sam

LOVE LOVE LOVE your five words, sam! although i think they’re all important, for me freedom is #1 – and i will go to great lengths to get it. for instance, we unschool/homeschool and we have no permanent residence. adventure is also a biggie – i was once told (many years ago now) that i was not adventurous. well, let’s just say that statement literally changed my life! i realized i wanted zero regrets in my life. thanks for a fabulous post.

I love this: Joy, light, freedom, connection, adventure. I crave adventure which goes hand in hand with freedom for me and joy. I feel as though I’m free when I’m able to do the things I want to do and every moment becomes a new learning experience and an adventure which makes me happy, joyous and light-hearted.

Freedom was my highest value. Kinda different now I am married..!! It still is important to me, you can be free in a marriage, in your mind, in your actions, it really is a beautiful and spirited thing available to us all. Lovely, light post, thank you 🙂

You can absolutely be free within marriage! As you say – in your mind, in your actions. It’s SO important to me to maintain that.
      Thanks for the feedback! xxx

Thanks for the post! I think that it is that internal game that is the major foundation for it all. If we are at the whim of our internal chatter and emotional storms, then happiness, joy, and light can be subsumed by worry, anxiety, etc. Our internal freedom is the key.

Procrastination is my biggest freedom sacrificer, I’m so terrible and leave everything, and I mean everything to the last minute. It’s so bad my husband teases me about it all the time. I really need to put some effort into changing this habit, but it’s something that’s developed over 30 years and not going away quickly.

That’s pretty funny. I have a tendency to leave things to the last minute as well, but if it’s actually impacting your freedom, life and happiness then it’s time to make a change! xxx

Yes. Yes, and YES! I’m in parallel with you, but haven’t taken to time to really write this out. I’m going to do that… I particularly like this re: freedom…

“…I have to catch the traps I fall into and look for the openness in every turn.”

    Me too 🙂
