I Ain’t Got Time For No Fun!

I hear (a LOT) from people who just don’t have enough time for fun!

To that, I say the dog ate my homework!*

You have to choose the life you live, and you can choose it one minute at a time. When you’re really busy and rushed off your feet? That’s when it’s the most important to take those moments and make them count!

So what do you do when you *really* don’t have enough time to add in more fun**?

Notice the moments

Take your fun (and MAKE your fun) one minute at a time. You don’t need to have a whole day to fit in fun, just fit in a bit more laughter.

Walk a new route to see something different. Keep your eyes open for things to laugh at, people to connect with, little ways to be happy.

I sometimes forget that life is made up of the small moments. I’m a list writer, and I look to the future a lot, which means I can forget about today while I plan for the ‘big’ things tomorrow***. But

How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives

– Annie Dillard

So make sure your day-to-day is full of joy.

Remember What You Love

Do you know what makes you sing?

I love to read, horse ride, hang with friends, hike (and so much more, what a fun gal!). But often when I’m feeling busy the things I love make way for the things I ‘have’ to do. And I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that approach.

When I’m feeling up it’s all good, I have a  spring in my step and energy to think of fun things to check out. It’s when I’m tired, or busy, or feeling low that I need to refer back to the things that make me happy and make sure I fit them in.

Shape Your Life

See how I said ‘fit them in’ up there. Scratch that. Surely in life your priority has to be to be happy, as what’s the point in being a miserable millionaire who works all day doing things you hate?

So make living your life a priority.

I know, who has time for that, right? You do!! It may seem impossible, but when you really feel stuck, pick one thing from the list of happy things that doesn’t take long. Then pick one thing from your to do list, that isn’t going to make the world stop spinning if it doesn’t get done right now. Swap them, and do the thing you love. 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 2 hours… whatever time you have, make your joy your priority.

You can always get back to the to-do list.

Now Take Action!

Easy action, that is. Changing your life for the better can be simple if you let it be.

  • Write down 10 things that make you happy. They don’t need to be big things, just whatever brings you joy in small packages
  • Do one of them every day

If you wake up and feel a bit blah, refer to the list. Pick one, do one.

If you wake up feeling hoorah, refer to the list. Pick one, do one. Or on these days when you’re full of joy and energy pick something off the list that makes you feel energised.

Simple! A day to day way to make things brighter.

Go forth, and live brightly!

How are you going to work some fun into your life today? Comment below with something that brings you joy!
