Turn It Off to Turn It Up
It #1 = The TV
It #2 = Life
I was listening to a philosopher philosophising recently, and he talked about how people rush out of work, and rush home through the traffic and rush into the house, only to turn on the television and sit in front of the flickering blue light all night long. Not interacting, or doing or living.
Do you do that?
I love a good dose of reality TV sometimes, but I know that when I watch more than I do, I get unhappy, and lethargic, and find it hard to rustle enough energy up to start doing.
So I turn off the TV. Sometimes I find it hard, and have to resort to tactics like giving the remote control to the hubster to leave at the office until I’ve got things under control again. There’s no shame in this tactic! The TV’s off, isn’t it?
When you find something difficult, make it as easy as possible for yourself to succeed.
One success will lead to more!
This week I’m setting you a challenge:
Turn of the TV for an entire week, and turn up your life!
Do something drastic like taking the remote control to work and leaving it there. No excuses, no exceptions.
Then do you need some ideas for what to do while you’re not watching TV? Here are just a few:
- Go to a museum
- Have friends over for dinner
- Go to the gym
- Try out a dance class
- Eat out with some friends
- Do a painting
- Go on a photo safari
- Take a hike
- Have a picnic in the park or at the beach
- Go to some farmers markets
Your imagination is the limit!
Share this post with a friend you can take the TV challenge together, and get involved in some activities at the same time! And comment below with one (or many) of your TV-free activity wins, I’d love to hear what you’re up to.
